The search is on for previous Festival Queens to participate in the 2016 Grand Parade.
From our Border Post column by President, Greg Thouard.
Memories of 50 years of festivals should come flooding back for many as we celebrate the Festival Queens, Young Ambassadors and Charity fundraisers in a series of stories. The festival committee has produced a list of winners as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations and it is planned to include as many of these as possible to be part of the grand parade at the 2016 festival. It is always recognised that there wouldn't be an Apple & Grape Festival without the Apple Blossom Festival that was held first and as a special tribute to these early festival days, the Apple Blossom Queens will lead the parade.
Today’s first story will celebrate the years 1955-1965 and over time it is planned to find out where all these people are and invite them to share a story or two about their festival experiences. In coming weeks there will be stories about different eras commencing with the first Apple & Grape Festival Queen. The stories that will be told and retold by generations of Queens and Ambassadors will provide such a historical record of importance and there are intentions to preserve these tales for future generations.
A call is being made by the festival committee for volunteers who would like to help out bringing this celebration of past Queens and Ambassadors together and getting them into the grand parade in vehicles or on foot and anybody who wishes to nominate for this role can contact Greg Thouard ph 0400 750 351
