Planning for the 2018 Apple & Grape Harvest Festival will soon be under way following the election of Directors at the Annual General Meeting held this week. Returning to head the festival committee for another term is the 2016 Festival President Greg Thouard.
The 2018 festival will again be over 10 days and will run from 23 February to 4 March. “With eighteen months to go, there is sufficient time for planning to make this another exciting event. There was so much benefit locally from returning to the 10-day format in 2016 that the new committee had no doubts about continuing with the extended period for 2018” said Mr Thouard.
From the 21 positions available on the committee the President was pleased to announce that 14 were filled on the night and expressions of interest received for some others. “That’s a great start” commented Mr Thouard. “With a wonderful group of community leaders participating, I am sure there will be others who want to join to help with the festival. It is worth publically mentioning the festival committee so other community members can talk with them about helping at the committee level or generally volunteering for festival help”. Joining the President on the management committee will be Max Hunter, Mary Rofe, Laura Kidd, Len McKewin, Graham Hitchener, Dan Cuthbert, Rosey Harslett, Trevor Wren, Shane Dullahide, Bill Brown, Ray Zanatta, Michelle Conkas and Mariel Thompson.
All committee positions must be filled to ensure festival success. Vacancies exists for Directors of grants and sponsorships, volunteers, young ambassadors, carnival events and a secretary on a shared role. Nominations for youth committee and marketing and publicity were received at the annual meeting, to be confirmed by the first planning meeting in October. Persons interested in any of the vacancies can contact 0400 750 351.
Plans are under way to conduct some off-year events and the festival committee will support the Rotary Club of Stanthorpe to conduct the annual South East Queensland National Busking Championships, the next to be held on 25 February 2017.
