ABOUT MIKE HAYES
Mike Hayes has been a wine industry professional for 37 years, and has been involved in all aspects of the industry including education, consulting and vineyard design. He was the first Queenslander to win a Gold Medal at the Sydney Royal Wine Show. Mike was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to research Autochthonous varieties throughout Europe. He is currently one of the Granite Belts premier winemakers and awarded the 2014 Samuel Bassett Award for “a significant contribution by an individual to the Queensland Wine Industry”.
Mike is currently the winemaker for Symphony Hill Wines and fifteen other wineries. He has been a wine judge in many wine shows, and is also a director of the Queensland Wine Industry Association.
Mike is an Adjunct Professor with the University of Southern Queensland, has a masters degree in Alternative wine grape varieties, holds the WSET Advanced Level 3 qualification and has been awarded 70 gold medals and 67 trophies over the past 10 years.
