Festival EventsThe Organisers of the 2010 Festival would like to inform the general public of some changes to Designated Alcohol Areas that were introduced for the first time in 2008. In the past, Festival goers were legally able to consume alcohol anywhere within the entire closed off street area. In 2008 this area was been greatly reduced and has been reduced further in 2010. Alcohol may only be consumed in the designated areas of Weeroona Park and within Licensed Premises (including beer gardens and secured areas as advised by individual establishments). Maps and signs will be posted around town, so please take notice of them. Police, both plain clothes and uniform, and Liquor Licensing Officers will be in attendance to enforce these restrictions. The 44th Apple & Grape Harvest Festival Gala Ball promises to be a spectacular night of old fashioned glamour and romance, with more than a hint of razzle dazzle! The 'Return to Cloudland' Ball will be celebrating the fabulous forties and seeking to recreate the essence of the famous Brisbane venue, Cloudland. Reminiscent of post-war gaiety, there will be champagne on arrival, a fabulous Big Band, a 40's style buffet featuring grandma style treats, celebrity hosts and some amazing performers. Held at the Stanthorpe Civic Centre, the doors open at 6:00pm. Last drinks are called at 12.30am and bar and event closes at 1:00am. The official part of the evening is the presentation of the Young Ambassadors culminating in the crowning of our Apple and Grape Harvest Festival 2010 Festival Ambassador and Fundraising Ambassador. Tickets are $65.00 + $3.25 Booking Fee and include entry to the Ball, a complimentary glass of champagne on arrival, all entertainment and the Buffet. Smoking Requirements there is a designated smoking area outside the front of the Civic Centre. Please note that while every effort will be made to secure your choice of table, this cannot be guaranteed as On-Line bookings will take precedence. If seats at your chosen table are not available, we will discuss alternatives with you. Once your seats have been booked, they may not be changed for any reason. What a way to start the day! - Enter the Mt Marlay 5km Fun Run, starting outside the YMCA in Talc Street, at 9:30am, run or walk around town, up Mt. Marlay 919m above sea level, finishing back at the start line. Enter by February 26th 2010 entry fee is $5.00 prepaid OR $8.00 on the day up to 9:00am. Registration 8:00am to 9:00am - run commences at 9:30am. The course is around town and includes a run up Mt. Marlay, which is 919m above sea level with an 8% gradient. The run finishes at the start line and kick-starts the Apple and Grape Harvest Festival activities for the day. So come along and join the challenge - run or walk - just enjoy yourself! Great prizes for the winners in each category - Male and Female Open, Male and Female over 40s and Male and Female Junior under 15. Shower facilities will be available at the YMCA for those who wish to step straight back into party mode after the run! If coming from Brisbane allow approx 2.5 3 hours, Toowoomba 1.5 hour, Warwick 45 minutes travel time and dont forget to book your accommodation early. The results are in! Business owners work long and hard to come up with some fantastic displays that represent the theme of the Apple & Grape Harvest Festival - take a leisurely stroll around the town to see what they have come up with this time around. The results of the competition are in! Please click HERE for more information... A much anticipated tradition from Festival to Festival, the Grand Parade draws entries from all over the district. Businesses, schools, community groups and individuals work hard to prepare their floats and entries for this wonderful exhibition of colour and expression - representing the rich diversity of industry, agriculture and community, and incorporating the Apple & Grape theme. A long time favourite with locals and visitors alike, be sure not to miss this fantastic component of the Apple & Grape Harvest Festival. Relax in the park with great food, great music and great wine from some of the Granite Belt's best Wineries. Award winning local Wineries will have stalls in Weeroona Park on both Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th March 2010. Wine will be available for tastings and purchase by the glass and/or bottle. During your visit to the Apple & Grape Harvest Festival, make sure you pay a visit to the Stanthorpe Art Gallery, located in Weeroona Park (and right in the middle of Festival activities!). The Stanthorpe Art Festival is staged as part of the biennial Apple & Grape Festival which celebrates the cultural and economic character of this vivid South East Queensland location. The major biennial art prize displays works in contemporary and traditional forms and invites submissions by artists from across Australia. In 2008, acquisitions and prizes included $15,000 for the winner of the 2008 acquisitive Stanthorpe Art prize, $1000 Regional Emerging Art Award, $2000 each for non-acquisitive 2D and 3D works and a $500 non-acquisitive "Vollies' Pick" Award. The Stanthorpe Art Festival opens on the 29th February and runs up to 18th April 2010.
