Stanthorpe RSL Band Parades - with Brass, Pipe & Drum bands

  • High Street Stanthorpe, QLD, 4380 Australia (map)

Marching bands galore will brighten the carnival area on festival Saturday.  The traditional morning parades will feature brass bands, pipe bands and the thunderous sound of marching drum bands.

One hundred and forty pipers and drummer from Armidale, Glen Innes, Scots College, Toowoomba, Warwick, Redlands and Stanthorpe will perform their best march tunes and perform in a massed band.  Then one hundred and thirty brass band musicians from Stanthorpe, Gold Coast, Warwick City, Dalby and the services bands of Royal Australia Army and Royal Australian Navy will lift carnival spirits.

Returning in 2018 is Brisbane St Joseph’s College Red Thunder Drumline which will be performing in the Grand Parade with a huge number of drummers.  Adding great marching performances will be Bundaberg Drum Corps and Redland Ladies Drum Corps .

Morning parades commencing at 11am and all bands will appear in the Channel 7 Grand Parade at 2pm.  Massed band performances after the grand parade is a perennial favourite and the Pipe Band rendition of Amazing Grace is a special festival moment.

The Navy Band will perform its moving evening ceremony and Beat to Quarters and Ceremonial Sunset on the concourse of the Stanthorpe Civic Centre at 5pm.  The ceremony is amongst the oldest of Naval Ceremonies dating back centuries and it reflects the tradition of calling the ship’s company to Quarters and Action Stations when battle is imminent.  Ceremonial Sunset reflects the traditional saluting and lowering of the Ensign at sunset.    The beautiful Evening Hymn will be performed and with a volley from the field gun the orderlies will fold the Ensign to the tune Song of Australia before dismounting with Waltzing Matilda.  A ceremony not to be missed.

(The Royal Australian Army Band will also perform on a special stage near Carnarvon Bridge from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, another concert not to be missed.  It is a first for the festival to have the Army Band perform and it will be a whole new entertainment experience for festival goers.  To add more to their already sensational program (correct at the time of printing), the Navy Band will join in for a special accompaniment to the Rossow Bulk Haulage Fireworks Spectacular. )

Both the Navy Band and the Army Band make a return to the Multicultural Carnival and Wine Fiesta at 9.30am and 10.10am Sunday with their Stage Bands performing.
